Death of the Righteous

Weekly Sidra: Chayei Sarah (Sarah’s life)  Torah Portion: Bereshit / Genesis 23:1-25:18 Haftorah: Melachim Alef / Kings I 1:1-31 Cave of Machpelah is a curious place only found in the text of Torah and Tanach in the book of Bereshit. Why?  It is here because we needed insight into the death of the righteous.  Avraham acquired the cave for the body of his beloved wife, who died shortly after being told to sacrifice his son on Moriah as an Olah to Hashem.  But why Machpelah? The Midrash states that during the visit of the three men/angels Avraham’s, choice calf for the meal he was going to serve to them, ran from him and he found it at the mouth of the cave.  He was amazed to find that Adam and Chavah were buried there and want to be laid to rest there with them [1] We find that ultimately Sarah, Avraham, [...]

Is Mashiach your Rabbi?

Is Mashiach your Rabbi?

Rabbeinu (our Rabbi) Maran Yeshua calls each of us individually to a life of discipleship to him (the Mashiach teach us to walk the Torah of HaShem). But what is a disciple? What does it mean to be a disciple? Disciples in Judaism: Our image of a disciple of Maran Yeshua maybe of a bearded man in a robe, wearing sandals. Or it may be simply an imag ...

Your Torah is True

Your Torah is True

Our source of life must be the Scriptures and Yeshua who is the Living Torah.  Simply put, the Torah is a set of instructions that HaShem has given to His redeemed people. The Torah consists of commandments, statutes, precepts, and ordinances that HaShem has given us to observe, remember, and keep so all would be well with us (we can be then o ...

Shabbat in the Hebrew Scriptures

Shabbat in the Hebrew Scriptures

Shabbat (Sabbath) is mentioned over 170 times in the Bible, one-third of those in the Besora Tova HaGeula (Good News of Redemption). In the first book of the hebrew Scriptrures, in Bereshit / Genesis 2:3 tells us "God blessed the seventh day and separated it as holy" as the final act of Creation.  It has been thousands of years since ...

Why Are You Not like Yeshua?

Why Are You Not like Yeshua?

* Searching for direction, purpose, and meaning in your life? * Wondering how to discern God’s will for your life? Many people are unhappy with who God made them to be and wish they were like someone else. They feel inadequate, always reaching for but never grasping that perfect image of themselves. They want to be smarter, taller, wittier, m ...

Ushpizin – Guests in Aramaic

Ushpizin - Guests in Aramaic

Question: This is my first time observing Sukkot. I would appreciate it if you could explain it to me as easily as possible. “When a person sits in his Sukkah the Shechinah (God’s Divine Presence) spreads its wings (metaphor) over it, we dwell together with Him.” One of the important experiences of Sukkot is that of leaving the pr ...

Yosef and the wealth of redemption

Yosef and the wealth of redemption

The writer of this article is not a believer in Maran Yeshua. Never the less his insights about Mashiach are well worth reading. HaShem gave to the Jewish people insight on His ways and how He truly operates, even if they may not understand it completely. We must remember that they are not rejecting Maran Yeshua the Rabbi, the Pharisee, the Zionist ...

Messianic Judaism – The Doctrinal Dilemma

Messianic Judaism – The Doctrinal Dilemma

There is a saying in English which we call the KISS method.  Keep It Simple Stupid.  It means that when we are trying to explain something we should keep it at a very basic level so that everyone can understand. I believe that this must also apply to the situation of doctrines and beliefs.  The harder we make it for people to underst ...

Kavana, Prayer, and Torah Faithfulness

Kavana, Prayer, and Torah Faithfulness

In Matthew 6:1-18, Yeshua emphasizes the importance of kavana, of proper intention, in observance of Torah commands. According to Yeshua, the intention of observing the mitzvot should not be so that others see you doing them, but rather out of obedience to HaShem. When giving tzedaka, Yeshua states that one is to do so without drawing attention to ...

Real Messianic Judaism

Real Messianic Judaism

This article is an attempt to express my thoughts on a “definition” of Messianic Judaism. As with many things, this “definition” requires that I explain what I believe Messianic Judaism is not before I tell you a little bit about what I think Messianic Judaism is. It is necessary that I say a word here about the “Messi ...

A Jew Lost in a Gentile World

A Jew Lost in a Gentile World

Rabbi Maran Yeshua HaMashiach: A Nice Jewish Man Lost in a Gentile World! In speaking concerning Mashiach I have been told, STOP calling Him “Yeshua”, you make Him sound Jewish!  In fact many people have concluded that the Jewishness of our holy Rabbi Yeshua is an incidental detail or even untrue. This latter point is not far off f ...
