Prinicples of Charity

Weekly Sidra: Ki Tavo (When you come) Torah Portion: Devarim / Deuteronomy 26:1-29:8 Haftorah: Yeshayahu / Isaiah 60:1-60:22 The Torah tells us to bring the Firstfruits (bikkurim) to the Beit HaMikdash  for the Levite, orphan, and widow, among the people, every year.  People would bring baskets full of produce to the Temple/Mishkan once the consecrated produce was marked and it became ripe.  This usually occurred from Shavuot through Sukkot[1] and the liturgical blessing was recited up until that point.[2]  The bringing of the bikkurim is also call ma’aser , for it states in verse 12, “After you have finished tithing all the (ma’aser) of the third (year)…etc.”  The bikkurim are part of the ma’aser, which would be brought with it on the third year and  given to the poor, the Levite, the convert, the orphan, and the widow so that they could rejoice in Hashem’s bounty together with the one who [...]

Hitbodedut - Biblical Jewish Prayer!

Rather, he prays to HaShem to fulfill his own physical and spiritual desires, and this is contrary to HaShem’s Will. He actually asks HaShem to help them do ...
