Desiring Mashiach’s Salvation

mahiach salvation | Desiring Mashiachs Salvation

In the fifteenth benediction of the Shemone Esreh we pray, "Et tzemach David avdecha mehera tatzmiach, vekarno tarum biyshuatecha ki lishuatecha kivinu kol hayom. Baruch ata Hashem matzmiach keren yeshua – (lit.) The offspring of your servant [King] David may you speedily cause to flourish and enhance his pride through your salvation, for we hope for your salvation all day long. Blessed are You, Hashem, who causes the pride of salvation to flourish." So we find our reference in one of our daily prayers for salvation – yeshua – redemption via the coming of Moshiach.

The Rambam, in his Seder Tefillot Kol Hashana omits "avdecha – your servant" and "lishuatcha kivinu kol hayom." Yet, the main point of the benediction remains the same – it is a prayer for salvation. Some siddurim include the additional words "umetzapim liy’shua – and we hope for salvation." Some have these words in brackets, and some without the brackets. We note that the editors of the ArtScroll Siddur have not included these words.

A favorite saying of the Chofetz Chaim (Rabbi Israel Meir Kagan 1838-1933) is that if we were really waiting for Mashiach with all our hearts, and actions, then He would appear suddenly, but the problem is that we say one thing with our mouths while in our hearts we are not really looking forward to his arrival.

We at Beth HaDerech could not agree with the Chofetz Chaim! It is true, some people (those who profess belief in Yeshua as Mashiach and those who do not, whether they are Jewish people, benei Anusim / Crypto Jews, or Christians) do cry to HaShem to bring Mashiach soon in our days, but their cry is not more than a nice religious cry, a desire founded in other’s people longing, not their own. Indeed their kavana (intention of their heart) is far away from them, they have a borrowed kavana from those who truly desire it!

To have true Emuna (faith) in Mashiach’s full revelation you have to have a good Biblical understanding of who HaShem is, and why He is sending out holy Mashiach.

Mashiach will be / is the one (Mashiach Ben Yosef & Mashiach Ben David), not two saviours as some proclaim (eg: just think when we cry “we want Mashiach now”, we do not cry for Messiahs (plural), but for Messiah (singular).

He is to be born in Bet-Lechem (Micah 5.1), rejected by the Jewish leadership (Tehillim 2.2), die and resurrect again (Yeshayahu 52:13-53:12 & Daniel 12.2), come back to fight the enemies of God, identified by the Jewish people by the piercing’s in his hands (Zecharya 12). But most important, as Maran Yeshua said in Mattityahu 23:29 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ All we need to do is read our Hebrew Scriptures and recognize the Mashiach via His Word, Teshuva (repent), and ask God with a sincere heart and true Emuna in Him.
