Vayikra, VaYikra, Va-yikra, or Vayyiqra (ויקרא — Hebrew for "and He called,” the first word in the parshah) is the 24th weekly Torah portion (parshah) in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading and the first in the book of Leviticus. It constitutes Leviticus 1:1–5:26. Jews in the Diaspora read it the 23rd or 24th Sabbath after Simchat Torah, generally in March or early April.

“Help me remember! Let us join in argument, Tell your version, That you may be vindicated.” (Yeshayahu 43:26) This week’s Torah portion is Vayikra or Leviticus as it is called in most Bibles. It is the third book of the five books of Moses. Vayikra deals mainly with bringing offerings to God. One of my favourite television shows is Judge Judy. The verse I have chosen above is similar in that God wants to hear our argument. He wants us to tell Him our version of the events so that we may be vindicated. The Torah portion instructs us in the manner we are to bring our offerings to God. The Haftarah portion is God’s rebuke to us for not bringing our offerings to him. In the verses prior to the one above, HaShem (God), states His case against us. The people I formed for Myself That they might declare my praise. 22 But you have not worshiped Me, O Jacob, That you should be weary of Me, O Israel. 23 You have not brought Me your sheep for burnt offerings, Nor honored...
