Messianic Jewish Emuna: Discipleship

(Mattityahu/Matthew 28:18-20) “Yeshua came and talked with them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make all people from all nations into talmidim, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.” These were the last instructions of our Master to his talmidim (disciples) in the Good News according to Mattityahu. Here we are given the command to go to all people and make them into talmidim or disciples which would be more familiar language for most readers. The concept of discipleship however was not a new one in the time of Yeshua, as we see here in the writings of the wisdom of the great rabbi’s of Israel. (Talmud / Pirkei Avot 1:1) “Moses received the Torah from Sinai [...]

Hashgacha Pratis – Divine Providence

Hashgacha Pratis - Divine Providence

The Torah teaches us that there are no "coincidences". The Hand of Hashem causes things to take place, and directs events in specific directions. The daily "laws of nature", such as the rising and setting of the sun are controlled by Divine Providence. At the other end of the spectrum are those radical departures from the " ...

Torah Tidbit: What is Emuna?

Torah Tidbit: What is Emuna? What does it mean and how does one have the means of obtaining it? Emuna is faith. Pure and utter faith almost to an ignorance of all common sensibility and reason. Believing that everything happens for a reason and is for the best. It is a belief that God controls every aspect of the entire universes, from a galaxy col ...

Dressing for the King

Dressing for the King

Can we as women be “beautiful” without wearing designer clothes, which reveal more than they cover, or do we have a secret beauty that is most radiant when the focus is not on the physical? I have seen the evidence of how desensitized we are as a society in the way we view flesh, and the open display of sexuality. This saddens me, not o ...

But by this time, the boat was several miles away from the shore, battling a ro ...

Messianic Jewish Emuna: A new creation: from darkness to light

When we are called by the father to receive the gift of faith, in the redemptive work of our Rabbi Yeshua the Messiah (His death and resurrection), upon acceptance we are instantly a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore, if anyone is united with the Messiah, he is a new creation- the old has passed; look, what has come is fresh and ne ...

Messianic Jewish Emuna: Our Eternal Torah

The Torah: Never Changing but Always Refreshing. (RAMBAM 13 Principals of Faith – Principal Nine, Lesson Eight Excerpt; Page 269) The Spiritual identity of the Torah appears, at first glance, to present us with two contradictory themes. On the one hand, we are taught that the Torah is static: “This Torah of Moshe will never be revoked a ...

Kavana, Prayer, and Torah Faithfulness

In Matthew 6:1-18, Yeshua emphasizes the importance of kavana, of proper intention, in observance of Torah commands. According to Yeshua, the intention of observing the mitzvot should not be so that others see you doing them, but rather out of obedience to HaShem. When giving tzedaka, Yeshua states that one is to do so without drawing attention to ...

Messianic Jewish Emuna: Disciples of Abraham

Abraham did not need the scrolls of the Torah to tell him how to fulfill Hashem’s will. Generations before Mount Sinai, he was already living a Divinely directed life: “You hear My voice and keep My observances, My commandments, My laws and My Torah” (Bereishis 26:5).
